img_2708Aubrey Rumore is a 22-year-old journalist who attended Arizona State’s Walter Cronkite School.

Her portfolio is a product of a wide-range of experiences she’s had throughout college.

During her three and a half years at the Cronkite School, Rumore hosted a radio show, wrote for the student paper, was a political correspondent in Washington, D.C. and a sports reporting in Kansas City, played on the ASU club volleyball team and lived in a homestay for three months in Seville, Spain.

But before Arizona State University was Bishop Miege High School in Roeland Park, Kansas. As a high schooler, Rumore frequented downtown Kansas City – especially First Friday’s in the arts district, went to all kinds of concerts and played volleyball year-round. There’s no real reason as to why she didn’t go to the University of Missouri’s j-school, perhaps just an itch to get out of state and meet new people.

Regardless, she was extremely pleased with her decision to attend Cronkite.

Her college coursework ranges from general topics like ethics and hard news reporting to classes like digital magazine design in which she created an interactive, iPad-format magazine from scratch.

Through her time at Cronkite, Rumore learned the roots of traditional journalism and the obligations of a modern journalist. The demands of today require “by the end-of-the-day” deadlines, rich stories with strong multimedia elements and, most importantly, a steadfast adherence to ethical standards.

She’s spent time in and out of classes polishing her online presence. Rumore’s knowledge of modern media includes a thorough understanding of Wordpress, general social media skills and specific social media platforms (i.e. Instagram, Tumblr, Medium, Twitter…).

In an attempt to exercise her creative side, she’s also learned how to navigate Adobe programs including inDesign, Illustrator and Audition and Wacom technology.

Through school and her job experience, Rumore has gained an open-mindedness towards what type of job she’s after.
